Darma Henwa Coal Production Grows 19.43% in the First Quarter of 2020


Jakarta, April 22, 2020 – PT Darma Henwa Tbk (DEWA) continues to perform production growth, as seen in the increase of coal delivery which contributed from all Company's coal mining projects. In the first quarter of 2020, DEWA's coal delivery reached 4.23 million tonnes, or grew by 19.43% from 3.54 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2019.


Coal delivery of the Bengalon coal mining project in East Kalimantan Province grew by 17.54% to 2.25 million tonnes. Coal delivery of the Asam Asam coal mining project in South Kalimantan Province rose by 18.70% to 1.76 million tons. While coal delivery of the Satui coal mining project in South Kalimantan Province increased by 52.01% to 217,705 tons.


Improving operational performance was also seen in the overburden removal which recorded at 31.84 million bcm during the first quarter of this year. This figure increased by 27.78% compared to 24.92 million bcm in the first quarter of last year. Overburden removal of Bengalon coal mining project recorded the highest increase of 42.96% from 15.74 million bcm in the first quarter of 2019 to 22.51 million bcm in the first quarter of 2020. It accounted for 70.68% of DEWA's total overburden removal.


Subsequently, overburden removal of the Asam Asam coal mining project was recorded at 7.03 million bcm. Then the overburden removal of the Satui coal mining project was at 2.30 million bcm.


"This shows an enhancement of Darma Henwa's operational performance, in accordance with equipment addition and repairs, as well as the increasing of productivity and effective working hours. In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Company continues to strive so that mining operations can run well while maintaining health and safety, "said DEWA Corporate Secretary Mukson Arif Rosyidi.


During this first quarter, operational activities at DEWA’s coal mining project still runs normally despite the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. However, the Company continues to pay attention and strive to prevent and anticipate the spread of Covid-19 at each project site which is carried out in a tight and controlled manner, by applying the Covid-19 prevention protocol to all Company employees. There are three Covid-19 prevention protocols used by DEWA to prevent the spread of Covid 19, namely protocol of working from home, protocol of handling employee who is suspectedly exposed to Covid-19, and protocol of responding Covid-19 suspect in the mining project area.


Mukson explained that to reduce the impact of Covid-19 spread to mining operations, DEWA is currently taking preventive measures by not allowing employees to take leave or leave the Company's mining area starting from April 1 until the further notice. Besides that, DEWA also conducts body temperature checks and screening forms; independent quarantine for employees who have just arrived from leave; applies physical distancing in the working area, including in the process of transporting workers from and to the workplace, as well as physical distancing during work; and provides training for medical team at the Company's project site.


Moreover, DEWA also implements work from home for workers in the head office and Balikpapan office; restrictions or delays of domestic and foreign official travel; use of teleconference or video conference facilities for business meetings between management in the head office, project sites, as well as between employees and external parties; provides hand sanitizers and masks in offices and operational areas; and cleans the working areas intensively including by sprays disinfectants in the workplace, workshops and camps.
